Q&A: Problem with customers' messages in back office

Main issue we are having at the moment is with Messages in the shop backend. When a new message comes through from a customer, you can see the notification at the top, and if you click on it, you can read the message. But after that, if you try to go to messages, or Read All Messages, it hangs for about 5 minutes and then goes to a “page not found” page. I just can’t work out what the problem is.

This kind of problem requires inspection directly in shop where the problem occurs.
Firstly - please enable error reporting then try to reproduce your issue again. Do you see some errors (white screen with error message) ? If so - it describes what the problem is.

If no error message is available, it is necessary to inspect host logs. By host logs i mean "php error log". Php stores error logs in /var/log/apache2 if php is an apache2 module. Shared hosts are often storing log files in your root directory /log subfolder.

Open this file and analyse error reports, you should find there error code related to your issue.
